There are few things more frustrating than feeling misunderstood. When the person misunderstanding you is your spouse, it’s easy to become discouraged, angry, or unresponsive. There is a better way. By seeking to understand your spouse, you help open lines of communication and trust. We’re not going to lie, the practice of seeking to understand rather than first be understood, is hard. However, God has promised that when we trust Him in this, He will clear the way for us (Proverbs 3:5-6). When you pursue listening well and seeking to better understand your spouse, you’ll find that the foundation of your marriage is stronger.
